Paul Delay - Park - Date Unknown

The second time I saw Paul Delay in concert was at a small park in my hometown. It was a free concert set up by the city and two other families (that I knew personally and remember) went. One of them still lives in the same town as I do. The dad of that family was a deacon in my church at the time, and he ended up getting Paul Delay's autograph after the performance. Delay signed it with the words "To the good brother deacon" or something similar to that. I also remember my mom being somewhat offended at the way that Paul Delay was dancing on stage while singing "Nice and Strong." (The song about "my baby's got muscles in her eyes... My baby's nice and strong. I think that's why we get along.")

Sorry this was late by two days and doesn't feature a picture or a video.

:(

Next time.

Paul Delay - State Fair - Date Unknown

"I got 14 dollars in the bank, fifteen-hundred worth of unpaid bills..."

- Paul Delay

All I can remember from this concert is that it was at (I believe) the State Fair in Salem, OR... that my family and I sat on a blanket on green grass about 75ft away from the stage and ate dinner there... and that Paul Delay, who is a very large man, was dancing a lot while singing.

And the song... 14 Dollars... and another one which I can't recall completely... having to do with "my baby's got muscles in her eyes... my baby's got muscles in her toes..."

It was my favorite song, too.

Correction - 29.

After thinking about it, I realize that I've actually been to 29 concerts.

I don't remember the dates of these ones but here they are anyway:

Paul Delay - at the State Fair... I was probably about 8 years old, but I couldn't tell you for sure. I only remember two things about it.

Paul Delay - at my town's park on a Sunday afternoon... it was a free concert, and again, I was too young to remember much.

Bruce Cockburn - at the Portland Zoo. I don't know what happened to my ticket stub, but this concert was a big deal for me. I idolized Bruce Cockburn's Christmas CD at the time. I must have been about 10 years old.

Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks - at the Portland Zoo. Again, I don't know what happened to my ticket stub. Must have been about 11 or 12.

These all had to have been during the middle of the summer...

So, I guess I'll have to write about these four before I write about The Shins and onward.

I'll try to write a concert a day, but it may not happen.

We'll see.

PDX & Muses

The purpose of this blog, PDX & Muses, is to tell you about every single rock concert I have attended over the past five years.  Most of them have been in Portland, my home-city. Thus the "PDX" in the title. However, a couple have been in Seattle, WA... and a couple at the Fairground in Salem, OR.

The point of the "Muses" part of the title...

First, my nickname (given to me by two of my best friends about 2-3 years ago) is Muse #3... The Muse of lyric and song. Second, these concerts were performances by many different Muses of lyrics and songs.

Also, the latest concert I attended was a band called Muse. I've seen them twice now, and I think they're my favorite band.

Anyway, it seemed fitting.

The total amount of concerts (so far) is 25. First concert date was April 7, 2005... latest was April 3, 2010.

Here is the list...

Muse (ft. Silversun Pickups) - Apr 3, 2010

This list shows you how much I can remember of who played at these shows without looking them up...

Opening bands... if I remembered them... it's because I liked them.

... or it's because they were so incredibly terrible that I still have nightmares where they are the headliners at a concert...

SO!

My first post, coming whenever I feel like writing about it, will be The Shins concert of April 7, 2005.

See you then.

(PS. The picture is the album cover of Regina Spektor's latest album, "Far"... It seemed appropriate.)
